Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory

Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory ( provides science professional development for teachers and field science learning opportunities for students in the RE1J School District.  Currently, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th grade students from CBCS participate in programs at the field station in Gothic each fall.  These trips provide students and teachers with hands-on, standards-based, and authentic science learning experiences.  During the summer, teachers participate in individualized field research experiences paired with RMBL researchers where they can observe and practice the process of science, and in turn, bring these career scientist skills back to the classroom to share with their students.
RMBL was established in 1928 as a research station for scientists and students from around to world to study mountain ecosystems.  Learners of all ages, from kindergarten students through retired professors, participate in field science programs at RMBL each summer.
